Having previously updated the alley kitchen with warm walnut finishes a few years ago, our client returned and asked us give also his master bath and dressing area of his Chelsea Loft a more special look and feel. He was so pleased with the warmth in their new kitchen, that we were now tasked with expanding the same aesthetic energy into the bathroom and dressing area. We adapted an intelligently laid out dressing space using a minimal material palette with an almost Japanese feel. Accompanied by similarly inbuilt seating, beautifully sculptural sconces, and a smart retro-lit dress- mirror, the soothing atmosphere moves into the bathroom with a warm framed entry onto the crisp, white space. Maximizing space without compromising clean lines, the main bathroom sports a horizontal L-shaped wall mirror that conceals a generous medicine cabinet. Beneath the mirror, a spacious double sink grounds the space with elements of walnut. A striking large-scale drawing by Joseph Stashkevetch ( http://www.stashkevetch.com/drawings ) also brings a fresh, organic feeling into the bathroom, and is appropriately placed above the sculptural tub. Thoughtful material distribution led us to the BOND line by Waterworks. We installed these simple circular handles and spouts to custom linear bands/ -plates in matching bronze. Spanning along the walls, this graphic almost embracing element recognizes the space’s shape and proportion with refreshing textural and tonal contrast.
